Welcome to the December issue of personalNEWS
Season's Greetings
At the end of another year it’s time to reflect on what we have achieved in both our family and professional lives and to contemplate what we hope to achieve next year.
At personalEYES, we have continued to expand the services we offer to provide a more holistic approach to eye health and to remain at the leading edge of technology to ensure we offer visual freedom to even more of our clients.
We have doubled the number of locations in NSW, making it even easier to get to a personalEYES centre, and expanded our team of surgeons to include outstanding leaders in their respective fields, including Dr Stephanie Watson who is at the forefront of stem cell research in the area of vision correction.
In 2010, we will be the only vision centre in Australia to offer AcuFocus, a new and simple, reversible, surgical procedure that corrects presbyopia, or the need to wear reading glasses.
We would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a merry Christmas and a healthy and happy new year.

personalEYES BOTOX® ReNew
“Now that you have helped me to see, I have far more wrinkles than I thought I had!”
After laser eye surgery we hear comments like this time and time again and many clients have asked to be referred to a clinic for BOTOX® treatment.
BOTOX® is currently used by personalEYES to treat various medical conditions and our Ophthalmologists and surgeons are qualified and experienced in its use. Due to popular demand personalEYES is now also offering BOTOX® treatment for cosmetic purposes, administered in our clinic in a safe, sterile environment.

Introducing a new solution for presbyopia
Need your glasses to read? Are restaurant menus a blur? Do you hold your arm out to read your mobile phone? Struggle to read the prices in the supermarket?
Then a new surgical procedure is going to open up a whole new world of freedom and vision.
Presbyopia is the most common eye condition in Australia, and affects many people over the age of 45. The symptoms include difficulty seeing near objects - such as newspapers and websites - while your long distance vision remains fine.
It's a natural result of aging, as the lens in your eye loses its elasticity - its ability to flex to focus on close objects as well as far away ones.
Until now, the way to address presbyopia has been reading glasses, or Phacoemulsification where an ultrasonic device is used to break up and then remove a cloudy lens from the eye.
Now, however, there's a new, simple and reversible procedure called AcuFocus. AcuFocus is also available for patients who have had LASIK surgery.

personalPROFILE
The PersonalEYES team of experienced surgeons and ophthalmologists provide the most up-to-date and professional care possible today. In this issue we would like to introduce to one of our key refractive and cataract surgeons, Dr Stephanie Watson.
Dr Stephanie Watson qualified as a doctor at the University of Sydney and did her clinical training at Royal North Shore Hospital NSW, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital NSW, Royal Darwin & Katherine Hospitals NT, Radcliffe Infirmary Oxford University UK, and Kikuyu Eye Unit Kenya, East Africa.
She has been directly involved in teaching undergraduates, postgraduates, general practitioners, nurses and optometrists in Australia and the UK, has been involved in extensive original research, is widely published, and has received numerous grants and awards.
Dr Watson recently appeared on The New Inventors with Dr Nick Di Girolamo - they have developed a process called Stem Cell For Eye Repair - a method of growing corneal stem cells on a contact lens (the carrier) and transfering them to the ocular surface of patients suffering corneal stem cells deficiency. They were the Winners and people's choice for Episode 30. You can read more about it on the personaleyes website and on the
ABC website where you can also view an excerpt from the program.
Looking for freedom from eyewear?
Have you investigated laser vision correction procedures only to be disappointed when you were told that this type of procedure is not appropriate for you?
For people who have moderate to high short-sightedness, seeing things clearly in the distance (or even up close) is a big challenge and can be very frustrating in so many ways.
If you want to experience a new vision of life without dependency on eyeglasses or contact lenses, implantation with a lens like the AcrySof® Cachet™ Phakic Lens by Alcon® may be able to help you.
Thousands of people all over the world have undergone lens implantation procedures and are now enjoying a new view of the once blurry world around them.
